Ever since the early days of Green Earth Organics, we've put together a weekly newsletter and included it in your bin. But now, at long last, we're going to be discontinuing the paper newsletter and the monthly email newsletter in favour of a new weekly email newsletter.
This change was driven by a desire to cut down our carbon footprint and in hopes that we can make the newsletter more helpful by including links and other interactive components.
Our new newsletter will contain all your favourite parts of our paper newsletters – recipes, news about the environment, articles about health and nutrition, etc. – plus links to sale products and the bin contents on the website. We will also continue to make important announcements in our newsletter, so please keep an eye out for new product announcements, holiday closures, specials, and more. We will still be cross-posting all contents to this blog.
If you currently receive our monthly email newsletter, you will be automatically included on the weekly email newsletter list, as will all new members who have started our service since the beginning of April. We will be using MailChimp to send our newsletters. If you are not sure if you are signed up, if we don't have your email address, or if you would like to be subscribed using a different email address, give us a call or email, or sign yourself up at the following links:
Fraser Valley
Sea to Sky
Vancouver
Victoria
Our last paper newsletter will be going out in bins the week of June 3rd through June 7th. The first weekly email newsletter will go out on Friday, June 7th, and every Friday from there.
For our members who need to receive a paper newsletter, please let us know and we will print copies of the email to include in your future bins. If you have any questions or concerns, or if you have suggestions for what should be included in our future newsletters, please give us a call or email us at info@greenearthorganics.com.

Did You Know: The Green Earth Office Schedule
"Did You Know" is our new series of blog posts by Melissa about Green Earth Organics: how it works, how you can do more with your account, etc.
In the Green Earth Organics office, we get the occasional question about who is working (OK, I get questions about why I'm sending out emails at 6 AM on a Sunday and Esther gets asked if I still work here), so I thought I'd let everyone know who is working and when and why.
I'm the full-time office manager and member services representative. Since I do the majority of the paperwork for the deliveries and the paperwork has to be done the day before the delivery day, I work Sundays through Thursdays to prepare the paperwork for Mondays through Fridays. On Sundays, I work from home and set my own hours. I'm a morning person, so it isn't unusual for me to be answering emails at the crack of dawn. On Sundays, I respond to emails, prepare the paperwork, and place our Monday orders with our daily suppliers, like the Artisan Bake Shoppe. I check the voicemails but often wait until Monday to call people back unless the matter is urgent, as I like to respect people's weekends.
I work in the office Mondays through Thursdays. On Tuesdays, my part-time co-worker, Esther, also works in the office. On Tuesdays, she takes care of the majority of the emails, phone calls, and daily paperwork, leaving me to focus on weekly tasks like inventories, launching new products, and blog posts.
On Fridays, Esther's in the office without me. There's no daily paperwork to be prepared on Friday, since Monday's paperwork can't be started until after 9 AM on Sunday, so she answers emails and phone calls, as well as works on the monthly email newsletter and updates our FaceBook and Twitter accounts.
When I take vacation time, Esther will be in more days while I'm gone and Dan, the company owner, may fill in on any days she can't work. We're a small company and we all fill-in for each other once in a while.
If you need any help with your bin or delivery schedule or have any questions about our products or service, you can reach Esther and I at info@greenearthorganics.com and at 604-708-2345. At least one of us is in the office from 8 AM to 4 PM, Mondays through Thursdays, and 8 AM to noon on Fridays.

Some New Year Reminders
Welcome to 2010 everyone!
As our members return from holidays and settle back into their routines, we wish to offer the following reminders to make sure that Green Earth Organics has smooth deliveries and that you get your bin of delicious produce just the way you want it.
The selection of produce changes weekly. The bin contents and new produce selections for the coming week are posted every Thursday evening on our website (vancouver.greenearthorganics.com). You can log on to our website any time after 6 PM on Thursday to start making changes to your next bin.
You are able to make up to four substitutions per delivery. The deadline for all substitutions, cancellations, and additional item requests is 9 AM the day prior to your delivery.
If you enjoy one of our wonderful grocery items, consider placing it on standing order. You can choose to have it with every delivery or with every second delivery, and you will save 5% every time! To set up a standing order for every delivery, just go to the "Standing Orders" page and add the items there. To set up a different standing order schedule, email the office at info@greenearthorganics.com or call us at 604-708-2345.
We offer several convenient payment options. Using a Visa or MasterCard, or being set up with Direct Debit, means that you never risk missing a payment. If you choose to pay by cash or cheque, please remember that payment is due upon delivery and that the delivery drivers do not carry change.
Whenever possible, please place your empty bins out in a safe area on the morning of your delivery for the driver to collect. Please have a look around for extra bins and cold packs.
If you have any questions or concerns, you can reach a member service representative at 604-708-2345. The office is open from 8 AM to 4 PM from Mondays to Thursdays, and from 8 AM to noon on Fridays. You can also email us at info@greenearthorganics.com.
We'd love to make your grocery shopping as easy and fast as possible so you have more time in 2010 for everything else that matters to you. Please let us know if there's anything we can do to make our service work better for you. Happy New Year!

Do you Twitter?
Green Earth Organics in Vancouver now has its own Twitter: http://twitter.com/greenearthorg (GreenEarthOrg). I'll be updating it periodically with whatever I think our members might find interesting.
Twitter describes itself as "... a service for friends, family, and co–workers to communicate and stay connected through the exchange of quick, frequent answers to one simple question: What are you doing?"
The result is an easy way to send short updates, links, and information to people who are interested in what you are doing.
Some of the things you may find on our Twitter:
- Links to organic or earth-friendly news.
- Information about any delivery delays.
- Links to recipes and ideas for using some of the fruits and vegetables in your bin.
- Information about new products before they come into stock.
- Product specials.
If there's something else you think it would be cool to include, please let me know. You can reply on Twitter, call me in the office (604-708-2345), email me (info@greenearthorganics.com), or comment on a post on our Blogger blog.
I look forward to Twittering with you!
Yours in Organic Living,
Melissa
