Bulk and Special Orders

For bakers, large families, and people who just like to have lots of food on hand in case of an emergency, bulk buying can be a blessing. We can't stock a lot of large bags of flours and dry beans and similar items as they take up a lot of valuable warehouse shelf space and they might go stale, however, we can order bulk amounts of a lot of non-perishable items.

From Westpoint, we can get bags of many different kinds of dry beans, as well as grains and dried fruit and nuts, often in 2 kg, 5 kg, and 10 kg bags. Some examples of things we can get are dry black beans, dry organic soup mixes,  different kinds of dry lentils, bulgur, corn meal, and hulled millet. They also have some unusual organic flours for those who bake gluten-free, such as white rice flour and quinoa flour.

From other suppliers, we can get 11 kg bags of different flours and oats and similar items. Many of these options are from the local flour mill, Anita's. They provide organic wheat bran, spelt kernels, regular rolled oats, quick cooking oats, and more. Other bulk suppliers have organic barley, quinoa, and farro.

Ordering time for special orders will vary, but we can often give you a good estimate of when something will be ready to be delivered.

If you are interested in getting a price estimate for a bulk price on organic dry goods, please just give us a call at 604-708-2345 or email us at info@greenearthorganics.com. It may take us a while to get size and price options to you, but we will try to get back to you within a business day or two at the most.

On that note, a member is interested in buying bulk quantities of Omega Nutrition Coconut Oil. It is in a 3.18 kg pail, but, unfortunately, the case size is four pails. The member is willing to buy up to three of them, but if you would be interested in the fourth pail, please contact us and I will arrange to special order the case and split it accordingly.

Did You Know: How Sale Items Are Chosen

"Did You Know" is our series of blog posts about Green Earth Organics: how it works, how you can do more with your account, etc.

Every week, when we update the fruits and vegetables for the coming week, we also update the sale items page of our website. The fruits and vegetables on that page change weekly, while the grocery items tend to change monthly.

The fruits and vegetables on that page are usually chosen because our supplier gave us an excellent price. If the distributor has a lot of stock - as happens most often when an item is at the height of its season - they will give us a discount to pass on to our members.

A lot of the fruits and vegetables on sale are too expensive to put into the regular bins, but are too tasty to resist carrying. Recently, we've had some of our best local fruits on the "sale items" page: cherries, raspberries, blackberries, bulk blueberries, canning peaches, and more.

The grocery item sale items are chosen for a variety of reasons. First, there are monthly specials from the supplier or manufacturer. Each month we receive a flyer from each of our suppliers with discounts of anywhere from 5% to 30% off various items. Sometimes everything from a certain brand is on sale and sometimes only one exact item is discounted. When we get a discount, we pass that on.

Second, we often put new products on sale. Sometimes we've received an introductory discount on the product, but often we just mark it down anyway. We aren't always able to do this - sometimes the margins are just too narrow - but we like to make sure our members see new products and the "sale items" page is an easy way to showcase them. This is especially important with perishable items where we have to buy full cases; if an item doesn't sell well at the sale price, we will often discontinue carrying it to avoid having waste.

Third, we sometimes put items on sale because we have too much stock or because we received an item accidentally. If we miss counting a case when doing an inventory and order more of something, or if the supplier sends us the wrong size of something, it is usually easier to put it on sale than to return it (especially since the supplier will often give us a discount if it is their error).

We do the best we can to keep sale items in stock, but sometimes they sell very quickly. Occasionally we've had issues with the availability from our sources too: if an item is on for a very good price, sometimes the supplier will run out of stock.

To get the best prices and find the newest items, we suggest checking the sale items page before each delivery. As with the rest of the website, the sale page is updated by 6 PM on Thursdays with the following week's stock and prices.

Happy organic eating, and saving!

Used Battery Drive

Household batteries are responsible for between 50% and 70% of all heavy metals found in landfills. Though we can cut that down by using rechargeable batteries, even they will eventually die, and then they end up in the landfill too.

There are recycling programs available for both rechargeable and non-rechargeable batteries. During the month of February, put your used household batteries in your empty bin for pick-up and we will get them to a recycling program for you.

Refer a friend and get a discount!

We participate in many special events to promote our service and share some organic fruit with the public. We often get to meet our members this way too, as they stop by our table to say "Hi! I get your service! I tell everyone about you guys!"

We genuinely appreciate it when people refer us to loved ones, so we thought it is only fair to reward your efforts. It’s almost as though you are ambassadors for the company, which is how we got the idea (and name) for the program. The Ambassador Program is a referral promotion that rewards existing members for doing what they are already doing: telling friends and family about our service.

Our Ambassador Program will be available until January 31st. During that time, for every new member who signs up and gives your name as how they heard about us, you get a bin for half price. So if two of your friends sign up, you will get a free bin!

Who knows, maybe the next time we’re at an event, you’ll see us, come over and say "Hi! I get your service! I told my neighbours about you guys and I got a free bin!"

The mandatory "small print": Cannot be combined with any other offers or discounts. To take advantage of this offer, the new member must sign-up between January 8th and January 31st, 2009, and receive their first delivery before February 7th, 2009. When signing up for Green Earth deliveries, the new member must name the active member who referred them to Green Earth Organics, then the referring member will receive 50% off their next bin, to a maximum value of $23. Discount applies to bin value only; standing orders and additional items are exempt. No cash value.
